1 socks 1 tree

In conjunction with International Day of Forests (21st March) and World Earth Day (22nd April) we are collaborating with Free Tree Society and GreenSmiths, to hold a campaign, 1socks 1tree.  A tree will be planted for every pair of socks bought from ABC. Costing for planting a tree can range between RM15-60 depending on it species.

OUTBOUND series designs are meant for rugged outdoor environment. It is designed for you and ABC team who enjoy the Mother Nature. The socks are made from recycled nylon to ensure that we do our part taking care of our precious environment.

Who is Free Tree Society

Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur is an environmental organisation that spreads the environmental stewardship message through giving away trees for free to green our Earth. Since 2013, they have given away over 40,042 plants to homeowners, schools, marginalized groups, community gardens and wildlife habitats to proliferate planting, to encourage biodiversity and to promote a love of nature.

They have enjoyed the regular support of corporate partners like The Body Shop, Aeon, AirAsia, CIMB Islamic, Bandar Raya Developments Berhad, and The Edge Foundation, to name a few.

They are registered with the Registrar of Societies as Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur PPM-010-14-21052012, a non-profit environmental civil society.

GreenSmiths envisions a future where empowered young people build a sustainable planet for all life on earth. GreenSmiths  facilitates  programs in school and project-based rainforest expeditions, we empower youths to address real environmental issues in their community and continuously rethink how we engage with the natural world.

GreenSmiths recruits young Malaysians and bring them on life-changing experiences in the Malaysian rainforest to grow their leadership, eco-engineering skills and connections with the planet.

One of the core experiences is the opportunity to explore the wilds of a pristine and biodiverse rainforest - Ulu Muda. This forest is over a million years old and is twice the size of Singapore. During this expedition they will learn about Malaysian wildlife and biodiversity, the threats to our rainforests, sustainable living and eco-engineering solutions – and very importantly, about themselves as leaders and the change they can make.

Malaysia’s land surface was once almost entirely covered with forest. Today, forests still cover about 54%of the total land area. However, deforestation is a major concern as the country is still rapidly developing. From 2001 to 2019, there was a reduction of about 8.12 million hectares of forest cover in Malaysia. This is equivalent to a 28% decrease in tree cover since 2000. Apart from deforestation, the remaining forests face threats from unsustainable logging, illegal removal of forest products and encroachment due to agricultural and urbanisation activities.

Among all types of forests, tropical rainforests support the greatest diversity of living organisms on Earth. With an estimated range from 3 to 50 million species of flora and fauna, rainforests are the undisputed champions of biodiversity among the world's ecosystems. The rainforests of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, are believed to be the oldest and among the most biologically diverse in the world. This diversity of rainforests is not accidental, but the result of a series of unique circumstances.

More About Our Forest

The Pulai Trail area is one the last remaining public green spaces in Bukit Persekutuan (also known as Federal Hill). The trail itself is an approximately 1km loop, with a single entrance off Jalan Negeri Sembilan. Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur has been actively maintaining the trail, accessible from the popular neighbourhood of Bangsar, to encourage an appreciation for the potential of urban conservation and biodiversity.
